The EV6 is all new model for Kia and the company's first dedicated all-electric vehicle (EV). Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV6 is the first in Kia's plan to build 11 new electric vehicles by 2026. Kia already offers plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and other EVs, but the EV6 shows the expanding choices and capabilities of what Kia, and its vehicles, have to offer.
The 2023 Kia EV6 is available with different battery pack and drivetrain combinations depending on trim level and range preference. The lower models feature a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle, configuring the EV6 with rear-wheel drive (RWD). The base RWD model features a smaller battery and 167 horsepower. The extended-range RWD model increases horsepower to 225. All models feature the instantaneous response of an electric motor, the AWD model delivers 313 horsepower and a 0-to-97 kph acceleration time of 5.1 seconds. For drivers wanting true performance, the GT model will deliver 576 horsepower and an acceleration time under 3.5 seconds. The Kia EV6 offers two battery sizes: a 58.0-kWh and a 77.4-kWh pack. The larger battery can provide up to 498 km of range on a single charge.
A daring and futuristic design awaits drivers of the 2023 Kia EV6, featuring high-tech content such as a digitized dashboard and floating centre console with multiple storage solutions. On the dashboard, the pièce de resistance of the 2023 Kia EV6 is the 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is an extension of the car's 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster and offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. In terms of comfort, the EV6 has a long wheelbase, so there are copious amounts of space for drivers and cargo in the vehicle. Passenger space is generous, but cargo space is also enormous, without even considering the front trunk.
Models and pricing have not yet been released for the Canadian market, but there will likely be four trim levels: RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range, GT-Line, and GT. Starting around $50,000 and topping out around $75,500, the EV6 offers a trim level for every type of driver. Whether someone wants extended driving range or high-performance power, the EV6 can offer it. Not many EVs can make and keep that promise.
